Dinner @ Madam Kwan's

Madam Kwan's is a 'kopitam like restaurant' serving local dishes. Recently, Z and I had dropped by the branch in Bangsar to give it a try. The most famous dish here is Nasi Bojari which is a type of Indonesian coloured rice that comes with assam prawns, beef rendang and deep fried chicken. That's what i had. The rice has a nice aromatic taste and deep fried chicken was crispy on the outside but soft and tender inside...mmm :)

Z had Nasi Lemak which came with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis and acar (pickled vegetables) which was placed in a separate serving. The nasi lemak was good but to me i think nasi bojari is way better.

They had mouthwatering local desserts here such as ice batu campur, cendol, bubur cha cha, sago gula melaka and more but the portions of the rice was so big that we had no space for any of those. :(

Santai @ TTDI

This is a place i go to frequently. It's a restaurant/cafe which serves malay style cooking. I like it mostly for the cooling ambience, reasonable price and of course good freshly cooked food. The menu consists of mostly common malay dishes served with rice such as daging masak merah, ayam paprik, kailan ikan masin, telur dadar....and so on. They also have several types of fried rice and noodles. On weekdays, at every 3.00pm they start bringing out assorted local kuihs like currypuffs, cekodok, cucur undang, cucur keria, bubur kacang and so on. These sell like hot cakes as it only takes about 1-2 hours for all of that to disappear. I like the sardine currypuff the best. :) Oh and their drinks are also well done individually when ordered, no premixes. I'm quite particular with this whereby i don't like the idea of instant or premix drinks. And i think it shows when you realise most or almost all of their customers do not order can drinks here. Their simple teh o ais limau taste good with no traces of seeds in it (which is what i usually have). Other drinks available includes fresh fruit juices, air bandung soda and the normal coffee and tea range.

Last weekend Z and I popped by to have a quick meal and i finally remembered to snap some pictures.

This is my nasi goreng santai. It's actually their nasi goreng kampung...original malay style. Not the usual thai nasi goreng kampung where the rice is white, fried with anchovies and kangkung. This one is fried with chillis, chicken meat, sayur sawi and then sprinkled on top with crunchy anchovies. And the difference between n.g. kampung and n.g santai is that you get few pieces of keropok and a fried egg to accompany the rice. This is one of my favourites.

Z had nasi goreng ikan masin. I like this one as well. The rice is fried with a little kicap so it's brownish, chicken meat and sayur sawi + kobes. Hehehe...kobes.....ok so annnyways the ikan masin is not fried together with the rice. Instead, a couple pieces of the ikan masin is placed on top of the rice like a garnish. Totally not spicey, good for those who can't take chillis. It does not come with keropok so don't be fooled by the picture. Z just took some of mine and that's his hand masuk dalam frame gambar because tak sabar nak makan...

Santai has opened a couple of branches at Tesco outlets. If i'm not mistaken at Tesco Mutiara Damansara and Puchong. But i think the best would still be this outlet they started with in Taman Tun, located at the shoplots same row as the Perodua showroom and behind KFC.

Land Below the Wind I

As i promised, more posts on food from my trip to KK, Sabah. First place that my aunt brought me and my bro to eat was this really nice chinese restaurant called Tien Tien which i have been to a couple of times from my previous trips. Thankfully it is halal so me and bro got to indulge in our favourite dishes as it is quite difficult to find really nice chinese restaurants in KL which are halal. Usually the ones that are, somehow doesn't quite have that "umph" if you know what i mean especially when it comes to chicken rice. Anyhoo...lets just get on with the photos...hehe

This is the chicken that came with the chicken rice set which me and bro ordered. The chicken is roasted and covered in sesame seeds. It was really yummy... :) My aunt settled for white rice so we could order side dishes and share on top of having a serving of roasted chicken each... (makan sakan la nih...)

This is the beancurd (tofu) with seafood and veggies. It had a fair share of fish, squid, prawns, carrots, snowpeas, black fungus...you name it. Nicely done as well.

Next was this chicken dish which i loved that i "tapau" it a few days later to eat at home with some hot leftover rice. Ooooooh.....just fabulous. Oh almost forgot to tell what it is...i can't remember the name exactly but it's called chicken in black bean and vinegar somethin...it tastes close to sweet and sour but better! Crispy chicken nuggets in sticky vinegary sweet n sour sauce...memang sedap.

Lastly a veggie dish, one of my favourites as well, brocolli with assorted mushrooms stir fried in some sort of soy sauce.

View of my plate...huhuhu I really enjoyed every single dish we ordered. I was one happy and satisfied girl that day :D

The next morning my bro wanted to have breakfast here so my aunt and him had the noodles and i just watched because i can't really eat heavy in the morning.

He had the dry noodles in soy sauce with the same roasted chicken we had with the chicken rice the day before...looks good eh? (dia mimpi ayam tu kot mlm smlm, hehe)

My aunt had the noodles with beef soup. Basically it's a choice of either noodles with chicken, beef or seafood and also either you want it dry or soup.

Itu saje buat masa ini... whenever you go to KK remember Tien Tien...
